New Architecture Features Advanced CPUs, GPUs, Enhanced Memory, and Liquid Cooling for Demanding Tasks

Supermicro, Inc., a leading IT solutions provider for AI, HPC, Cloud, Storage, and 5G/Edge, has introduced its latest X14 server platforms. These next-generation systems, designed to deliver unparalleled performance for compute-intensive workloads, represent a comprehensive upgrade over previous models.

    Advanced Technology for Unmatched Performance

Building on the success of the efficiency-optimized X14 servers launched in June 2024, the new systems integrate cutting-edge Intel® Xeon® 6900 Series Processors. These processors offer up to 256 performance cores (P-cores) in a single node, enabling unprecedented compute power. In combination with support for next-generation SXM, OAM, and PCIe GPUs, these systems are set to drastically accelerate AI training, high-performance computing, and complex data analytics tasks.

The X14 servers also feature enhanced memory capabilities, including support for MRDIMMs at 8800MT/s, providing up to 37% improved memory performance compared to DDR5-6400 DIMMS. This translates to faster processing speeds and reduced time and costs for large-scale AI and compute workloads.

    Comprehensive System Upgrades

The X14 family now includes over ten new systems, several of which are based on completely redesigned architectures to maximize performance. Significant enhancements include:

    • GPU-Optimized Platforms: Specifically tailored for AI training, large language models (LLMs), generative AI, and more, these systems support the highest-wattage GPUs and are available in air-cooled and liquid-cooled configurations. They are ideal for applications that require intense computational power.
    • High Compute-Density Multi-Nodes: Systems like SuperBlade® and the new FlexTwin™ feature direct-to-chip liquid cooling, significantly increasing the number of performance cores in a standard rack. This makes them perfect for handling AI and high-performance computing (HPC) workloads.
    • Hyper Rackmounts: These market-proven systems combine single or dual socket architectures with flexible I/O and storage configurations, making them suitable for enterprises and data centers scaling up as their workloads evolve.

    Innovative Cooling Solutions

Supermicro’s new systems incorporate advanced liquid cooling technology, designed to enhance efficiency and prevent thermal throttling. By integrating liquid cooling directly into the server architecture, these systems not only reduce the total cost of ownership (TCO) but also minimize the environmental impact (TCE) of data center deployments.

In addition to the cooling solutions embedded in the servers, Supermicro offers a full suite of in-house liquid cooling solutions. These include cold plates for CPUs, GPUs, and memory, as well as cooling distribution units and manifolds. These solutions can be seamlessly incorporated into rack-level configurations, further optimizing system performance and energy efficiency.

Optimized for Intel Xeon 6900 Processors

The new X14 systems are designed to support the soon-to-be-released Intel Xeon 6900 series processors with P-cores. Additionally, they will offer socket compatibility for Intel Xeon processors with E-cores in the first quarter of 2025. This built-in flexibility allows users to choose between performance-per-core or performance-per-watt optimizations, depending on their specific workload requirements.

When configured with Intel Xeon 6900 series processors, Supermicro’s systems support new FP16 instructions via the built-in Intel® AMX accelerator, further enhancing AI workload performance. These systems also include 12 memory channels per CPU, support for DDR5-6400 and MRDIMMs up to 8800MT/s, and more extensive support for high-density EDSFF E1.S and E3.S NVMe drives.

    Supermicro’s Commitment to Innovation

Supermicro remains at the forefront of server technology, continually expanding its Data Center Building Block solutions with these new high-performance platforms. Charles Liang, president and CEO of Supermicro, emphasized the company’s dedication to delivering top-tier solutions with rapid time-to-delivery, supported by a global manufacturing capacity.

The new Supermicro X14 systems represent a significant leap in server technology, offering unparalleled performance, advanced cooling solutions, and the flexibility needed to support the most demanding AI, HPC, and enterprise workloads. With the upcoming Intel Xeon 6900 series processors, Supermicro is well-positioned to continue leading the industry in high-performance computing solutions.
