Basware, a global leader in accounts payable (AP) automation and invoice processing, has officially been recognised as a Partner Dematerialization Platform (PDP) by the French Tax Authority General Directorate of Public Finance (DGFiP).
France’s E-Invoicing Mandate
Starting September 1, 2026, all VAT-registered businesses in France will be legally required to send and receive invoices electronically. The objective of this mandate is to enhance financial transparency, reduce tax fraud, and improve overall efficiency in financial transactions. The French government estimates that this move could recoup approximately €3 billion annually from incorrect tax claims.
Basware’s Role in Supporting Businesses
To facilitate this transition, Basware is helping enterprises automate their accounts payable processes. This includes matching, approving, and processing invoices at scale, allowing businesses to remain compliant with the new e-invoicing regulations while simultaneously optimising their financial workflows.
As part of its continued dedication, Basware actively participates in the PDP working group formed by the French Tax Authority. This initiative aims to support businesses as they adapt to the significant changes in financial systems required for e-invoicing compliance. The platform provides practical solutions to ease the transition for companies.
SVP of Global Compliance Comments
“E-invoicing is no longer optional—it’s a legal obligation and a key factor in cost management,” says Markus Hornburg, SVP of Global Compliance at Basware. Although numerous businesses are concerned about the challenges of compliance and potential operational disruptions, a global service provider like Basware can guarantee adherence to the ever-changing regulations.
France is a critical piece of our global compliance puzzle. It’s more than just a mandate, it involves financial reporting, creating transparent audit trails, and driving digitisation projects. Our mission is to make this transition seamless and cost-effective for our clients.”
France Joins Global E-Invoicing Trend
France is among a growing number of countries implementing mandatory e-invoicing regulations. Each country’s rules vary in terms of requirements, timelines, and technical standards, which poses a significant challenge for businesses. Companies must stay informed about regulatory changes and adjust their internal processes accordingly.
The European Commission estimates that this move could reduce VAT fraud by €11 billion annually across the EU and cut administrative and compliance costs by over €4 billion in the next decade.
