Every summer, Gran Canaria, a favorite among the Canary Islands, attracts many British tourists in search of sun and sea.

However, the island is considering measures to control tourist numbers. Local leaders are contemplating a tourist tax for visitors to the iconic Roque Nublo, a volcanic rock formation nearly 6,000 feet above sea level.

Known for its stunning beauty, Roque Nublo draws tourists from around the world, prompting local authorities to manage visitor flow to protect the island’s natural environment.

The local government, led by Antonio Morales, is conducting a study to evaluate the feasibility of the tourist tax.

Morales emphasized the importance of protecting natural spaces like the Maspalomas Sand Dunes and the Bandama Caldera from environmental degradation. The exact amount of the proposed tax remains undetermined.
