CASCARA: A COFFEE-INFUSED TEA EXPERIENCE
An innovative take on coffee by-products
With the rising global demand for coffee, there is growing interest in innovative coffee-based beverages. Julius Meinl is at the forefront, offering two organic cascara teas for the hospitality sector: Activitea Cascara Organic Herbal Loose Tea and the newly launched Intensive Cascara Lemon Lime Oolong/Green Tea Bags, both designed to celebrate International Coffee Day.
What is cascara?
Derived from the Spanish word cáscara meaning “husk,” cascara refers to the dried outer layer of the coffee cherry. Typically discarded or composted, it has recently gained popularity as a sustainable, health-conscious beverage. Brewing cascara produces a naturally sweet, fruity infusion, with a caffeine content lower than coffee yet higher than traditional teas. Rich in antioxidants and known for its anti-inflammatory properties, cascara is a refreshing, sustainable alternative to standard drinks.
Organic, premium, and versatile
Julius Meinl’s cascara products are certified organic, with the fruit sourced from sustainable farms in Peru. They can be enjoyed hot or cold, offering a unique coffee-meets-tea experience that benefits both the consumer and coffee producers through additional income streams.
