Indulge in an exclusive coffee experience

Julius Meinl invites coffee lovers to savour their latest limited-edition offering, the Burundi Gakenke 100% Arabica, crafted to mark International Coffee Day 2024. This single-origin masterpiece promises a complex flavour profile, with vibrant notes of blood orange, subtle undertones of black tea, and a finish rich in caramelised brown sugar.

    Sourced with precision and care

Hailing from the esteemed Gakenke Station in Burundi’s Kayanza province, this Red Bourbon variety is naturally processed, handpicked, and meticulously sorted before being dried as whole cherries. The result is a coffee with a floral aroma, pronounced sweetness, and a fruity depth. Gakenke Station supports over 1,700 smallholder farmers and is operated by Greenco, a renowned company dedicated to improving socio-economic and environmental standards in Burundi.

A commitment to excellence and sustainability

Part of Julius Meinl’s The Originals Limited Edition Series, the Burundi Gakenke coffee not only represents exceptional craftsmanship but also highlights a commitment to sustainable practices. Greenco’s initiatives to support local communities ensure that this coffee uplifts those who produce it. As a result, the quality of life for future generations of coffee farmers is enhanced.

    Crafted to perfection in Vienna

The Originals Limited Edition Series features micro-lot coffees that adhere to Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) standards. These coffees are roasted in small batches at Julius Meinl’s headquarters in Vienna, Austria. The Burundi Gakenke has achieved a notable SCA score of 86, reflecting its superior quality.

    A message from Julius Meinl

    CASCARA: A COFFEE-INFUSED TEA EXPERIENCE

An innovative take on coffee by-products

With the rising global demand for coffee, there is growing interest in innovative coffee-based beverages. Julius Meinl is at the forefront, offering two organic cascara teas for the hospitality sector: Activitea Cascara Organic Herbal Loose Tea and the newly launched Intensive Cascara Lemon Lime Oolong/Green Tea Bags, both designed to celebrate International Coffee Day.

    What is cascara?

Derived from the Spanish word cáscara meaning “husk,” cascara refers to the dried outer layer of the coffee cherry. Typically discarded or composted, it has recently gained popularity as a sustainable, health-conscious beverage. Brewing cascara produces a naturally sweet, fruity infusion, with a caffeine content lower than coffee yet higher than traditional teas. Rich in antioxidants and known for its anti-inflammatory properties, cascara is a refreshing, sustainable alternative to standard drinks.

    Organic, premium, and versatile

Julius Meinl’s cascara products are certified organic, with the fruit sourced from sustainable farms in Peru. They can be enjoyed hot or cold, offering a unique coffee-meets-tea experience that benefits both the consumer and coffee producers through additional income streams.
