Hull City Council has chosen Workday’s Human Capital Management (HCM) and Financial Management solutions to modernise its digital infrastructure. This decision marks a significant shift towards a more efficient and unified system, enabling the Council to enhance workforce productivity and streamline financial management.
Hull City Council, responsible for delivering over 400 essential services to 260,000 residents, employs more than 5,000 staff. These services include education, social care, housing, and waste management. To better integrate its workforce and operations, the Council has partnered with Workday, a leading provider of enterprise cloud applications, to modernise its digital infrastructure.
A Unified Approach for Improved Workforce Management
Hull City Council’s workforce is its most valuable asset, and ensuring seamless access to HR and operational data is crucial. Workday HCM will provide an intuitive, single-platform solution that simplifies administrative processes, enabling employees to manage personal information and professional records more efficiently. By centralising workforce data, the Council will gain improved visibility into staffing needs, allowing for data-driven decision-making in areas such as recruitment, onboarding, and talent management.
David Bell, Director of Finance at Hull City Council, emphasised the importance of this transformation: “Our people are at the heart of everything we do. By consolidating our data into one intelligent platform, Workday enables us to make faster, more informed decisions. This investment is not just about efficiency it is about giving our employees the tools they need to provide better services to the residents of Hull.”
Previously, the Council relied on a legacy e-business suite that struggled to scale with the organisation’s evolving needs. This led to an increased administrative burden, with manual processes and scattered spreadsheets hindering operational efficiency. Workday’s advanced capabilities will eliminate these inefficiencies, fostering a more agile and responsive workforce.
By automating repetitive HR tasks, Workday HCM will free up time for managers and employees to focus on strategic initiatives, professional development, and improving service delivery. The system’s user-friendly design will also enhance employee engagement, ensuring a smoother experience when managing HR-related tasks.
Enhancing Financial Clarity and Strategic Planning
Beyond workforce management, Workday Financial Management will play a crucial role in strengthening the Council’s financial oversight. The suite provides real-time insights into budgeting, procurement, and accounting, enabling the Council to optimise resource allocation and reduce unnecessary costs. Advanced reporting tools will enhance financial transparency and compliance, ensuring the Council meets regulatory requirements while making more strategic investment decisions.
Additionally, Workday’s automation capabilities will reduce the risk of human error, ensuring financial data remains accurate and reliable. By eliminating outdated financial management practices, the Council can reduce inefficiencies and focus on long-term planning and financial sustainability.
With increased financial clarity, leaders will have greater confidence in decision-making, ensuring that taxpayer funds are used efficiently. This modernisation will help the Council strengthen its fiscal resilience, paving the way for sustainable growth and service improvements.
A Future-Focused Partnership
Daniel Pell, CEO of Workday UKI, highlighted the value of this collaboration: “Organisations in both the public and private sectors need comprehensive visibility into their workforce and financial resources. With Workday, Hull City Council will benefit from unparalleled insights, allowing them to optimise operations and provide high-quality services to the community.”
