Jacky Cheung, one of the most celebrated figures in Chinese music, has reached an extraordinary milestone by completing his 1,000th concert. This landmark performance, part of his ongoing Jacky Cheung 60+ Concert Tour, was held in Haikou and marked the 218th show of the current tour. With this achievement, Cheung becomes the first Chinese artist to surpass 1,000 concerts, cementing his status as a global music icon.

The event was attended by executives from Universal Music Greater China (UMGC), who honoured Cheung with a special tribute for his immense contributions to the music industry. His career, spanning nearly four decades, has seen him perform in over 100 cities across 18 countries and regions, attracting millions of devoted fans.

A Musical Journey Spanning 38 Years

Jacky Cheung’s touring career began in 1987 with his Jacky Cheung 87 Concert at the Hong Kong Coliseum. Over the years, he has captivated audiences with ten extensive world tours, each pushing new boundaries in live entertainment. His performances have played a key role in bringing Chinese pop music to an international audience, demonstrating its cultural significance on the global stage.

Throughout his career, Cheung has repeatedly set new records. In 1995, his Friends World Tour became the first by a Chinese artist to reach 100 shows. His 1/2 Century World Tour (2010–2012) attracted over two million attendees within a year, earning him a Guinness World Record for the largest combined audience for a live act in 12 months. More recently, his A Classic Tour (2016–2019) set another benchmark with 233 performances.

His current Jacky Cheung 60+ Concert Tour, which began in 2023, has already achieved 218 shows, further adding to his legacy. Despite these record-breaking accomplishments, Cheung has always maintained that his true motivation is his passion for music and performing.

A Legacy of Excellence and Recognition

Widely regarded as the God of Songs, Jacky Cheung has been recognised with numerous prestigious awards. His accolades include the U.S. Billboard Music Award for Most Popular Singer in Asia (1994), World Music Award for Best-Selling Asian Artist (1995, 1996), and multiple Golden Melody Awards for his exceptional contributions to Mandarin music. Seven of his albums have been certified as Hong Kong’s best-sellers by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI).

Reflecting on his journey, Cheung expressed deep gratitude to his fans, stating: “A thousand concerts represent more than just performances; they embody the love and dedication I have poured into my music for four decades. Every moment on stage is a tribute to the unwavering support of my fans. Without them, none of this would have been possible.”

Universal Music’s Tribute to an Icon

Jacky Cheung’s long-standing relationship with Universal Music Group (UMG), dating back to his signing with PolyGram in 1984, has played a crucial role in his success. In celebration of his 1,000th concert, UMG presented Cheung with a three-metre-long traditional Chinese scroll painting, illustrating key moments from his ten tours, symbolising his artistic evolution and lasting impact.

Timothy Xu, Chairman and CEO of Universal Music Greater China, praised Cheung’s achievements, saying: “Jacky’s remarkable career is an inspiration to generations of musicians. His legacy is not just in records broken, but in the way he has shaped Chinese music’s global presence.”

With his Jacky Cheung 60+ Concert Tour still ongoing, fans eagerly await the next chapter in this legendary artist’s career.
