Japan Airlines (JAL), a member of the oneworld® Alliance, is excited to announce the expansion of its Airbus A350-1000 international service on the London Heathrow (LHR) to Tokyo Haneda (HND) route. Beginning today, passengers can experience heightened inflight comfort and a personalised travel experience on this prestigious route.
With the A350-1000 now making its European debut, JAL customers flying between London and Haneda can enjoy state-of-the-art cabin designs and seating configurations across four classes. The introduction of this fuel-efficient aircraft is expected to lower carbon emissions by 15-25%, reinforcing JAL’s commitment to sustainable travel.
Initially, the new A350-1000 will operate on select London-Haneda flights (JL044/043) on alternate days. On days when the A350-1000 is not in service, the Boeing 777-300ER will continue to operate. (Note: the schedule may be subject to change.)
Cabin Innovations
JAL First Class (6 Suites): Passengers travelling in JAL’s First Class can enjoy the airline’s largest and most luxurious private suites to date. Each of the six suites is fully enclosed with sliding doors, offering the utmost in privacy. The suite features a large sofa that transforms into either a single or double-sized bed, depending on customer preference. In addition, built-in headrest speakers provide crisp, immersive sound quality, while a 43-inch 4K personal monitor delivers a theatre-like experience.
JAL Business Class (54 Suites): For the first time, JAL introduces fully private spaces in its Business Class cabin. Each suite includes a reclining seat designed with pressure-dispersing cushions and a headrest that can be raised for added comfort. The 24-inch monitor is perfect for in-flight entertainment, even when the seat is reclined.
JAL Premium Economy Class (24 Seats): Premium Economy seats have been upgraded with larger partitions for increased privacy and comfort. The new FIXBACK seat design allows for easy reclining, while the legrest automatically elevates to a horizontal position. Each passenger can enjoy entertainment on a 16-inch 4K monitor, which is 1.3 times larger than those on previous aircraft.
JAL Economy Class (155 Seats): JAL’s Economy Class offers enhanced comfort with adjustable recline settings that ensure a relaxing flight from take-off to landing. The new 13-inch 4K personal monitors, the largest in JAL’s Economy Class, also feature Bluetooth® connectivity for added convenience.
Inflight Meal Service and Sustainability
In line with JAL’s aim to cater to diverse dietary preferences, new inflight meal services are being gradually introduced, including refreshed vegan and vegetarian options. The airline has also adopted non-petroleum-based plastic materials for its cutlery and tableware in an effort to reduce environmental impact.
Inflight Entertainment and Wi-Fi
JAL has partnered with Panasonic Avionics Corporation (USA) to offer the latest inflight entertainment systems. Starting 1 October 2024, passengers in JAL First and Business Classes will benefit from unlimited free Wi-Fi, while Premium Economy and Economy Class guests will enjoy one hour of complimentary Wi-Fi. Each seat in all classes is equipped with 4K monitors and Bluetooth® connectivity, allowing passengers to connect devices and create a personalised entertainment playlist via the JAL App.
JAL’s A350-1000 aircraft entered service earlier this year on the New York (JFK) to Haneda route, followed by the Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) to Haneda route. With six out of thirteen A350-1000 aircraft already delivered, JAL is working towards phasing out its Boeing 777-300ER fleet in favour of the more efficient and environmentally friendly A350-1000.
