ProAmpac, a global leader in flexible packaging and material science, has unveiled the latest version of MAKR by DASL—an advanced online pouch configurator that simplifies and streamlines the packaging design process. Powered by the 3D Source Configuration Platform and integrated with Unreal Engine, MAKR enables users to create custom, high-quality, digital packaging prototypes easily and efficiently. With this innovative tool, the complexities of traditional packaging design are eliminated, allowing users to visualise and develop their product designs online with unmatched ease.

    A Seamless Design Experience

MAKR by DASL represents a breakthrough in virtual packaging design, providing an intuitive and user-friendly platform that enables quick and efficient design without the need for complex software or technical expertise. According to Sal Pellingra, ProAmpac’s vice president of global package design, applications, and business development, “MAKR by DASL allows customers to design flexible packaging without the need for complicated software or external assistance. It’s the first tool of its kind in the industry and makes the packaging design process accessible to anyone, regardless of technical skill.”

MAKR offers a range of customisation options to suit varying packaging needs, including:

    • Format Selection: Customers can choose from a wide range of ProAmpac’s pouch, bag, or food-to-go formats to match their specific product requirements.
    • Tailored Customisation: Users can apply custom dimensions, design features, and personalised graphics to create packaging that meets their exact needs.
    • Photorealistic Prototypes: Powered by Unreal Engine technology, MAKR generates highly detailed and lifelike digital prototypes, providing an accurate representation of the final product. These photorealistic prototypes can be downloaded for further review or incorporated into presentations for stakeholder evaluation.
    • Quick Turnaround: ProAmpac’s streamlined processes ensure that a physical prototype of the user’s custom design can be delivered within just two weeks, speeding up the overall product development timeline.

Scott Sturges, CEO of 3D Source, echoed the excitement surrounding MAKR’s capabilities, stating, “MAKR delivers real-time photorealistic customisation, thanks to our 3D Source Configuration Platform. The fact that it’s cloud-based means users can access and design packaging on any device, anytime, anywhere. It revolutionises the way packaging is designed, labelled, and prepared for marketing, making the entire process much faster and more efficient.”

    Real-World Application: Brackett’s Orchards

One of the first businesses to leverage MAKR’s capabilities was Brackett’s Orchards, a Maine-based apple orchard company. Brackett’s Orchards utilised the platform to design the packaging for its latest retail product, Brackett’s Best Apple Chips. Through the MAKR platform, Brackett’s selected a packaging format, customised the dimensions, and incorporated specific closure features. They were also able to test different graphic designs before finalising the packaging.

Josh Paulin, owner of Brackett’s Orchards, appreciated how MAKR made the packaging design process more straightforward. As someone dedicated to producing top-quality fruit, my priority isn’t on packaging design. When the demand for our apple chips grew, we needed expert help to get our product to market quickly. MAKR by DASL helped us bring our packaging ideas to life in a way that was easy to use and fast to execute. From concept to design to prototype testing, MAKR shortened what would have taken months into just a few weeks.

    Pushing Boundaries

With the launch of MAKR by DASL, ProAmpac is pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in the world of packaging design. By offering a streamlined, customisable, and visually realistic packaging configurator, ProAmpac is helping businesses of all sizes develop and market their products faster and more effectively. MAKR’s ease of use and quick prototype turnaround are game-changing for the consumer packaging industry, positioning it as an indispensable tool for companies looking to bring their products to market with speed and precision.
