Coastline Housing Advocates for Secure Funding in Supported Housing Services
To mark the occasion, Coastline Housing hosted a range of events involving residents, volunteers, and community members. The celebrations highlighted the importance of supported housing and brought together key stakeholders to discuss the need for continued investment in this vital sector.
Celebrating Supported Housing at Chi Winder, Pool
Homeless clients at Chi Winder in Pool kicked off the day by hosting a BBQ event. They welcomed visitors, stakeholders, and community members to the purpose-built homeless centre to showcase the essential services it provides. These services include crisis accommodation, move-on housing, access to healthcare, showers, laundry facilities, educational courses, and numerous support and advice services.
The event underscored the importance of supported housing in providing a foundation for vulnerable individuals to rebuild their lives, with guests gaining insight into the comprehensive care offered at Chi Winder.
Creating a Fairy Garden in Redruth
Meanwhile, Coastline Housing’s accommodation for homeless families in Redruth celebrated the day with a community lunch, cake, and the creation of a new fairy garden. Families, residents, and guests worked together to bring the project to life, adding plant pots, mushrooms, and miniature ladders. It is hoped that children and families will continue to contribute to the fairy garden in the future, creating a symbol of joy and hope for new residents.
A Call for Continued Support
Louise Beard, Deputy CEO of Coastline Housing, expressed the importance of supported housing services, stating:
Miners Court Celebrates with Singing and Dancing
The celebrations continued at Miners Court, Coastline Housing’s Extra Care scheme. This facility offers independent living in 64 self-contained flats, along with on-site care and support services. Residents joined together to decorate the scheme with handmade decorations and enjoyed a day of music, singing, and dancing with entertainment provided by a local performer.
Louise Beard emphasised the importance of schemes like Miners Court, especially in regions with ageing populations.
“Cornwall has a significant number of elderly residents, and Extra Care schemes are essential to helping people remain healthier and more independent for longer. Without these services, many could face long stays in care homes or hospitals, which would strain public resources. Supported housing plays a critical role in allowing individuals to live independently with dignity.”
Commitment
The Starts at Home campaign serves as a reminder of the vital role supported housing plays in the lives of vulnerable individuals across the country. Coastline Housing remains committed to advocating for continued investment in these services to ensure they can meet the needs of future generations.
