CATL’s Groundbreaking Freevoy Battery Offers Over 400 km Electric Range and 4C Superfast Charging

Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (CATL) has launched the Freevoy Super Hybrid Battery, a game-changing hybrid vehicle battery that offers a pure electric range exceeding 400 kilometers along with ultra-fast 4C charging capabilities. This innovation marks a transformative leap in the energy efficiency and convenience of hybrid vehicles, enhancing the appeal of Extended Range Electric Vehicles (EREVs) and Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs) in the burgeoning new energy market.

    Solving Long-Standing Hybrid Vehicle Challenges

As the popularity of EREVs and PHEVs grows, consumers have voiced concerns about the limitations of existing hybrid vehicles, particularly around range, charging speed, and performance under extreme temperatures. CATL’s Freevoy is designed to address these challenges, enabling drivers to travel an entire week on a single charge while adding the convenience of rapid charging. In just 10 minutes, Freevoy can provide up to 280 kilometers of range, significantly reducing the “range anxiety” often associated with hybrid vehicles.

    Advanced Technology Powering the Freevoy

The Freevoy battery is powered by a range of pioneering technologies. Gao Huan, Chief Technology Officer of CATL’s China E-car Business, highlighted these advancements during the launch. Freevoy features surface-modified cathode materials and a high-voltage electrolyte with a nano-protective layer, which minimizes side reactions and enhances lithium-ion transport. By integrating high-activity particles, CATL has significantly improved lithium-ion mobility within the battery, boosting the pure electric range beyond 400 kilometers.

Additionally, CATL has refined its State of Charge (SOC) model using advanced algorithms and hardware upgrades, increasing control accuracy by 40% and improving the pure electric utilization rate by over 10%. Data analysis on charge-discharge polarization characteristics has enabled CATL to forecast the battery’s discharge capacity accurately and optimize power performance by 20%.

Pioneering 4C Ultra-Fast Charging and Enhanced Low-Temperature Performance

The Freevoy’s 4C ultra-fast charging technology allows it to achieve an impressive 280 kilometers of range in only 10 minutes. This is made possible through an innovative multi-layered electrode design and advanced electrolyte formulations, which enhance ion conductivity and charging speed. This breakthrough ensures that hybrid vehicles equipped with Freevoy deliver a charging experience comparable to that of fully electric vehicles.

In addition to charging speed, CATL has equipped the Freevoy with sodium-ion technology to address the challenges posed by cold temperatures. Freevoy is capable of discharging at temperatures as low as -40°C and charging at -30°C, providing a smooth driving experience down to -20°C. CATL’s three-pronged technological innovations in sodium-ion technology boost the battery’s low-temperature range by 5% and extend the electric range by over 10 kilometers.

    Comprehensive Reliability and Safety Standards

Safety and reliability are central to CATL’s Freevoy. The battery undergoes rigorous testing across various stages, from material selection and molecular design to big data-driven early warning mechanisms. This systematic approach ensures a high degree of reliability, safety, and longevity for the battery, meeting CATL’s stringent quality standards.

Expanding Industry Impact and Future Outlook

The Freevoy battery is already implemented in several vehicle models from brands such as Li Auto, AVATR, DEEPAL, CHANGAN NEVO, and NETA. By 2025, CATL plans to expand this reach with 30 more hybrid vehicle models from companies like Geely, Chery, GAC, and VOYAH. This launch reinforces CATL’s dedication to advancing new energy solutions and supporting the global transition to sustainable, electrified transportation.
