    Bringing Light to Vulnerable Communities

In a world increasingly characterised by isolation and hardship, Dr. Salman Shahid and his team exemplify compassion and unwavering dedication to community service. Their heartfelt efforts have become a lifeline for vulnerable individuals, offering both practical support and emotional solace.

The journey began during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic when Dr. Shahid, a general practitioner in Middleton, personally delivered Christmas hampers to the elderly, those who had lost loved ones, and other vulnerable individuals. His actions were celebrated widely, earning recognition on social media and even by the BBC. This small but impactful gesture marked the start of a broader mission to bring joy and support to those in need.

    Founding Healing Humanity International

Inspired by the overwhelming response to his initial efforts, Dr. Shahid established Healing Humanity International, a charity dedicated to addressing the needs of vulnerable, elderly, and isolated individuals. The organisation also provides critical support to low-income families, local food banks, and homeless individuals, tackling the escalating issue of poverty head-on.

Since 2022, the charity has hosted annual Christmas lunches designed to alleviate loneliness, isolation, and disabilities. These events offer more than just a meal; they provide a space for connection and belonging. By leveraging community resources, Dr. Shahid and his team have transformed these lunches into a tradition of hope and togetherness.

This Year’s Christmas Lunch: A Celebration of Unity

In 2024, Dr. Shahid, alongside lead volunteer Jackie McCann, coordinated a dedicated team to organise another memorable Christmas lunch. Volunteers worked tirelessly to prepare and serve hearty, home-cooked meals in a welcoming and inclusive setting. Attendees shared stories, laughter, and companionship, leaving not just with satisfied appetites but also uplifted spirits.

To ensure the event’s success, the team also engaged with local businesses and organisations for additional resources. These collaborations not only enhanced the quality of the lunches but also strengthened community bonds, reflecting the shared commitment to fostering a supportive environment.

Many participants expressed profound gratitude for the opportunity to connect with others during a challenging time of year. These gatherings have become a beacon of hope, helping individuals forge new friendships and support networks.

    Year-Round Commitment to Community

Dr. Shahid’s contributions extend well beyond the festive season. His charity maintains a strong partnership with Middleton and Rochdale food banks, addressing the critical needs of food-insecure and homeless populations. Through food drives and fundraising campaigns, they ensure these organisations can continue to provide essential services throughout the year.

By rallying local volunteers and donors, Dr. Shahid demonstrates the transformative power of collective action. His efforts have created a robust network of support, turning holiday initiatives into a sustained mission of generosity and care.

    A Champion for the Vulnerable

Dr. Shahid’s leadership inspires action and brings attention to the challenges faced by marginalised communities. His advocacy for communal mental health and support highlights the importance of connection in overcoming adversity.

As the tradition of annual Christmas lunches continues, Dr. Shahid and his team remain committed to fostering a sense of belonging among those who need it most. Their efforts embody the essence of generosity, demonstrating how small acts of kindness can create lasting, meaningful change.
