Burger King® Japan, a subsidiary of BK Japan Holdings Co., Ltd., proudly introduces a unique, Japan-exclusive addition to its menu, the “Kyoto Whopper®.” This limited-edition burger, crafted in partnership with Kyoto’s renowned rice merchant, Hachidaime Gihey Co., Ltd., brings a distinctive Japanese twist to the classic Burger King® lineup. By combining Burger King’s signature flame-grilled beef with the expertise of a rice purveyor steeped in tradition, the Kyoto Whopper® offers a taste experience that merges rich Japanese flavors with modern fast-food convenience.

An Exclusive Taste Inspired by Japanese Culture

Launching across Japan from November 1, 2024, the “Kyoto Whopper®” introduces a new take on the beloved Whopper® by using a specially crafted rice patty instead of a traditional bread bun. Sourced directly from Kyoto’s 2024 rice harvests, the rice patty is made from a blend of premium white rice and Kin no Ibuki brown rice—both chosen for their distinct flavors and textures that enhance the natural taste of the flame-grilled beef. This Japanese-inspired bun alternative brings out the burger’s flavors, offering customers a balanced taste and unique texture that are perfect for fans looking to explore Japanese cuisine in a casual dining setting.

    Japanese-inspired Flavours and Craftsmanship

The “Kyoto Whopper®” isn’t just a burger; it’s a culinary journey. Each juicy 100% beef patty is complemented by a special Japanese-style ginger sauce, which includes four types of dashi-infused soy sauce: bonito, mackerel shavings, shiitake mushrooms, and kelp. This carefully crafted sauce provides a bold umami profile that blends seamlessly with the burger. Enhancing the flavor are four traditional Japanese spices: roasted chili pepper, Japanese pepper, ginger, and dried citrus peel, all contributing to the burger’s distinctively Japanese taste. Fresh lettuce, tomato, and onions complete the burger, offering a vibrant contrast that rounds out the flavors.

A Unique Collaboration of Tradition and Modern Innovation

Hachidaime Gihey, an established Kyoto-based rice vendor with deep-rooted traditions, played a key role in the creation of the “Kyoto Whopper®.” This collaboration highlights a meeting of culinary expertise, with Burger King® Japan benefiting from Hachidaime Gihey’s generations of rice-growing knowledge. Gihey Hashimoto, President of Hachidaime Gihey, expressed his pride in the collaboration, saying, “We are thrilled to bring Kyoto’s rice heritage to a broader audience through the Kyoto Whopper®, merging tradition with Burger King’s innovative spirit.”

Available for a Limited Time Only

This Japan-exclusive burger is available à la carte for ¥990 or as a meal for ¥1,290 at Burger King® locations nationwide. Both locals and international visitors are encouraged to try this one-of-a-kind burger and enjoy an authentic Japanese twist on a fast-food classic. The Kyoto Whopper® is only available for a limited time, making it a unique experience for those in Japan this season.
